INTRODUCTION
The Covid-19
outbreak halted all the economic
activities in world and Goa is not exception.
With reopening of economic activities , Government and businesses need
to take immediate action to get the state economy on track .
The Goa’s economy is depended on agriculture,
industry, mining and tourism .These sectors have bring Goa an immense amount of
revenue.
ADVANTAGES :-
Agriculture is an important occupation of rural people in Goa. It
contributes 15% -16% of states total income providing livelihood for 2 lakhs of
population . Coconut and its products have huge market in both national &
international market. Vegetables ,flowers
&
fruits acts as cash crops.
Mining is the backbone of Goa’s
economy. It provide employment to thousands of people in Goa. It brought new technology and lot of foreign currency in to the country. It also
improved infrastructure.
Goa is a famous tourist destination worldwide and hence bring a lot a money in state account . It contributes 15% in Goa’s GSDP. Tourism in Goa also helps grow other side businesses such as bars & restaurants, shacks, local stalls etc. This also help with sustaining cultural & historical site of Goa.
Industrial areas like
Kundai and Verna industrial estate have
provided employment to lot of people. The new industrial policy of Goa have
promised to give employment to 80% of locals .Goa’s Health
Care & Pharmaceutical Industry
contribute 10% of total India’s pharmaceutical products.
OPPORTUNITIES :-
Due to
closure of mining and COVID -19 ,a void
in financial system have came but there
are other opportunities that can help
fill this void.
Goa can be
turned into a start -up hub with
little improvement in infrastructure and
internet connectivity for both national and international talents.
Construction of new airport at Mopa can be the logistic
hub . Goa’s pharmaceutical sector and industrial sector are other
example.
There will be
new technological cluster at Tuem if govt. successfully attract electronic & hardware business it
will create job . Mopa airport will add more opportunities .
Converting Goa into a educational hub by
improving educational policies and infrastructure will attract people and this will also help
in boosting tourism.
Corona outbreak stopped tourism this can be used to rebrand the Goa’s tourism.
Goa lost its importance in tourism recently ,this can be improved .
CONCLUSION:-
Goa have a good economic status , it is among the rich state in the country with high HDI ranking but have several problems . With the increasing economical opportunities there comes relative problems . These should be handled carefully so that both economic growth & development go hand in hand.
